Increased patrols and drones are seen nearly every day as they visit their underground cavern to read forbidden books and study the Bible. The Underground Book Readers attempt to find out the identity and purpose of a new threatening group seen on a nearby mountain while they continue to work on an escape tunnel. But they soon discover there is more under Leena’s house than a cellar. The underground group design a spy mission to the other mountain. Questions remain about possible escapees who left to find a free territory in what used to be called the United States in the world before.

BOOK EXCERPT

United Forces Excerpt 6

“There is no other way. We must figure out who these people are and what they are doing. If they are still over there tomorrow, we will have no choice but to make a plan to spy on them during the day. But cautiously. We can’t risk being seen or taken by the World Force.”

Jairus once again showing his leadership ability, stepped in front of the group. “Let’s go back inside. We need to be out of sight.”

The group followed Jairus, and Leena opened the door of her house for their entry. They entered and each took a seat in the living room by the fireplace.

“As I said outside,” Kahn continued, “We don’t have a choice. We must figure out what they are up to. Maybe they are looking for food or shelter. But we must be careful whatever we do.”

Casey turned to look directly at Kahn. “I’m not sure what to believe. We all heard the rumors; they could be dissenters stealing from people because they are hungry. Or they could be people like us, just hiding.”

Conroy raised his hand.

“No need to raise your hand, Conroy,” Jairus said.

“Okay. I just want to say, even if they aren’t World Force, like Casey said, they could be up to no good. They may want to take possession of what we have here.”

Conveniently Wed to the Laird

A little different than my normal pick.  But I enjoyed the story of Catriona and Ewan.  An unexpected romance?  Or a convenient arrangement?  Would Catriona accept the Laird's terms?

I liked that it was set in Scotland.  My ancestors were from there.  Of course, it's quite popular right now due to a television show.   I can only imagine how beautiful the area is and how Ewan wanted so much to save his clan. My husband and I plan to visit there next year.  I wouldn't be surprised if I thought of this story as we explore the countryside.

Both Catriona and Ewan learned survival skills early on to give them the strength and ability to endure painful periods of their lives. These very skills could also prevent them from finding true happiness.  This book is set in the 1700s but this happens now to so many.

Her Heart's Desire

Mary needed to get away.  She was tired of being bullied by girls she once thought were friends.  Her parents assisted Mary in taking a vacation to Florida.  This trip was the break she needed.

This trip became more than a vacation.  It became a journey of discovery.

Have you ever taken a vacation that changed the course of your life? I took a Carribean cruise after my divorce in 2000.   I needed some time away to get my head together.  I went on this vacation alone.  This trip proved to me that I'll be okay.  I will survive.

The characters  in this book were restless and at a crossroad. Decisions needed to be made for their futures.  Some time away helped them see their lives in a different perspective.

I enjoyed the story.  I love to read anything about the Amish.

I received this ebook from Revell Reads to review.

Holding the Line

Rose had a job she loved.  She needed no man to make her happy.  She was done with men.  They can't be trusted.  Then she met John.

Was Rose "Holding the Line" to protect her heart?  Did John let family obligations get in his way of happiness?

A sweet story of how your past can possibly prevent true happiness in the future.  I am amazed that I was not like Rose.  Divorced and hurt that my ex could treat me in such a cold manner.  I was disappointed and questioned if I could meet someone that was worthy of my trust.  I was guarded but not to the extent where I would shut out any future suitor.  Thank goodness!  I married the love of my life 7 years later.

I received this early copy to review by the author.

Critical Threat

Can you imagine living with the reality that your father is a serial killer?  Sam not only knew but he was the one who turned him in to the police.

An interesting story that has quite a lot of underlying emotional overtones.  FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley has overwhelming guilt over her past. Prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe has his own demons to deal with.

Can Sam and Grace work together to catch a serial killer?  Can they put their emotional issues aside to get the job done?

I enjoyed the book not knowing what was going to happen next.  I have read a few of Lynette Eason's books and have enjoyed each one. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this one.

Christmas at the Little Knitting Box

I'm a crocheter but it didn't stop me from reading this cute story. A chance for love at Christmas.

I so wanted Cleo to be happy.  Is Dylan the one for her?

Helen Rolfe wrote this delightful book.  I haven't read much by this author but I'm anxious to read more.

There just might be a chance of a Happily ever after amongst the skeins of yarn.

A Christmas Memory

There are only 182 pages in this book.  A small book.  But it contains some very important messages between the covers.

I love reading each and every book by Richard Paul Evans.  This is no exception.  It touched my heart.  Mr. Evans shared a Christmas memory that resonates with me.

I highly recommend this touching story.  It's not a typical Christmas story like you would expect by the title.

BOOK EXCERPT

A Trail So Lonesome Excerpt 5

“You’re our captain. Isn't that reason enough?" She sounded stiff and uncomfortable. And maybe it was wrong of him to feel a bit of glee.

"It’d be more believable if we play-act that I am your beau.”

She was silent.

“You know it’s not real. So do I. But to everyone else, we are courting. No one will question it.”

She still didn't say anything, and he wondered for a moment whether his pride and his suggestion had lost him the chance for that cash.

But then her voice came stiff and cold in the darkness. "Fine."

She'd agreed. Maybe he would regret it when he was fully awake or tomorrow morning, when she couldn't hide that little displeased frown. But for now, he could almost taste the freedom of knowing that his siblings were settled and well taken care of.

"You should get some rest," he said. "I've got to go on watch."

He sensed more than saw her nod in the darkness. "I'll walk you back to your tent."

She hesitated. Was she rethinking the whole thing?

“Good night,” she muttered.

And it was. A night offering him a whole new start.

A Mother's Christmas Wish

A wonderful book that shows that you are given a second (third or fourth) chance to make things right.

Emma made some terrible decisions that resulted in her moving to her Aunt Bessie's pub in Ryhope.  Emma no sooner arrived when one more rash behavior changed her life forever.

The characters in this story were fantastic to read about.  It  just was what you would think who would reside in a small village.  Everyone knows your business.  No one can really keep a secret.  And Emma did have secrets.

I really enjoyed the book.  This was my first time reading anything by Glenda Young.  This won't be last.  I love historical stories based in England.  I had to laugh when they introduced Christmas crackers to Emma.  I  bought them for Christmas last year.  I have a picture of the whole family wearing their paper hats around the table.

I was given the opportunity to read this ebook by Boldwood Books to review.  Thank you for that as I loved it.

No.  It can't end there.  There has to be another page.  This is how I felt when I finished this latest addition to the The Amish Bonnet...
