Into the Sunset

Ginny deliberately has hidden herself in fear of returning to the insane asylum.  It's time to stop this now.

Dakota has to watch his back as a family wants retaliation.  This prevents him from settling down and having any chance of a family.

Maeve is afraid of the changes that will happen in their lives if her mother remarries.

Fear can stop you in your tracks.  Fear can also motivate you to act in ways you never thought possible. This is clearly the case for the characters in this book.

This is Book 3 of the series: A Western Light.  I have read Book 1 and 2. I love Mary Connealy's books.  I couldn't put this down last night.  I had to finish this wonderful story.

I want to thank Celebrate Lit for giving me the opportunity to review this story.

About the Author

Mary Connealy writes “romantic comedies with cowboys” and is celebrated for her fun, zany, action-packed style. She has sold more than 1.5 million books and is the author of the popular series Wyoming Sunrise and The Lumber Baron’s Daughters and many other books. Mary lives on a ranch in eastern Nebraska with her very own romantic cowboy hero.

More from Mary

Into the Sunset is the third book in A Western Light series, and I always love the wrap up of a series. In this book I’ve got a deliciously evil villain, and I’ve worked that villain in and out of the characters lives at the end of each of the first two books, but he keeps coming back. This time, he really gets what’s coming to him. Anyway, it’s not a shocking thing to say: the bad guy loses. I’ll bet most readers of my work knew that was coming. It’s the HOW that makes it fun.

My heroine is one I really enjoyed: Maeve O’Toole—a red-headed, sassy Irish lass with a mild brogue. And my hero, Dakota Harlan, has interested her from the first moment she laid eyes on him. Except that moment was several years ago, and she blamed him for her father’s death on the wagon train Dakota was leading. Then life separated them as he went on to Oregon and her family turned aside to homestead in Idaho. Now Dakota is back in Maeve’s life again. She’s had a chance to see that her anger with Dakota was unfair and has discovered that Dakota has always admired her. He’d probably scoop her up and marry her, if it wasn’t for the men trying to kill him. He doesn’t have much room for a wife in the life he’s living now.

In this story, I bring back all the characters from the earlier two books. The villain who’s been harassing them all along reappears, and the men hunting Dakota show up, too. Ginny must go to court to break the hold her evil husband has over her, declaring her insane and locking her away. She’s been hiding ever since. But now she’s ready to face him in court, but a conniving, wealthy man like her husband never plays fair.

Into the Sunset is packed with love and action, adventure and danger. All play out against the hectic railroad town of Cheyenne, Wyoming a few years after Wyoming becomes the first state to give women the right to vote. And there are some tough, smart women ready to stand between Ginny and a cruel husband. And plenty of tough smart cowboys, too. I hope you love this story!

Wishing for the Rancher's Love

Clementine Oakley loves making candy.  She doesn't love Grant Worth. He gets on her nerves.

But after Clementine feels threatened, Grant comes to her rescue time and time again. Maybe he isn't so bad after all.

This story is Book 5 of the High Country Ranch Series. It has been a great series. I have read every one and I'm sad that this is the last one. They are entertaining and so easy to read.

The Workshop Lass

It was difficult to read at first.  It was gripping and emotional.  I cringed and felt so bad for Lissie.  She was only 7 years of age and had to deal with so much for her age.

She was a strong, little girl who grew up to be a beautiful soul.  She didn't allow her circumstances to bitter her.

The characters were written so well.  It was like I knew them. Luckily for Lissie, she met people who became her family.  They were there for her even if her mother wasn't.

I related to the time period as my maternal grandfather served in WWI.  He was in France and died in Egypt.

I enjoyed the story and loved Lissie.  I can't get enough of Chrissie Walsh's books.  Her books brings out all your emotions.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Seven-year-old Lissie Fairweather is the apple of her father’s eye, but when a tragedy strikes their family, Lissie must make her own way in the world.

Dora Fairweather wasn’t cut out to be a wife and mother, and as soon as she’s able, she turns her back on her young daughter Lissie. With no parents to protect her, Lissie has no option but the dangerous streets of soot-sodden Bradford or the workhouse orphanage. Life in the orphanage is bleak and Lissie longs for the warm embrace of her beloved father.

As the years pass, Lissie learns to enjoy the camaraderie of the other girls in the workhouse, and when she’s taken under the wing of matron Connie Briggs, things begin to look up. A move to the seaside of Scarborough, friends and even love are finally within Lissie’s grasp.

But she can never forget her father, cobbler Tom Fairweather, and the terrible secret she has carried all these years. Can her heart ever truly be at peace unless she finally discovers his fate? And with the drumbeats of war on the horizon, what will be the fate of the lass who survived the workhouse...

Serenity's Secret

What secret could stop Serenity from her dreams?

Stephen realized Serenity was the girl for him.  But how could he convince her to take a chance?

Serenity was in danger. Why? Who could it be?

A wonderful story of discovery and acceptance. Serenity and Stephen would learn to trust the LORD. GOD knew what he was doing.

A sweet story.  I hated seeing Serenity suffer in silence. Thank goodness she had friends and Stephen.

Hero for the Holidays

Landry King has a difficult time dealing with his past relationship with Fia Sullivan.  They were teenage lovers who broke up after Fia became pregnant and gave their baby away.

Unexpectantly, Landry brought their young daughter, Lia, home 13 years later.

What a shock for Fia, their families and the community in which they live!  Fia and Landry have a lot to explain.  They both have to relive the past to understand the future.

The book's storyline was different than anything I have ever read.  It was a little racy for my liking.

About the author

Maisey divides her writing time between dark, passionate category romances set just about everywhere on earth and light sexy contemporary romances set practically in her back yard. She believes that she clearly has the best job in the world.

Return to the Wilderness

I read this so fast!  I sure was bummed when I got to the last page.  I loved  the story.

I related to Muireall Blair.  I'm nearsighted.  Thank goodness for eyeglasses.  I can not imagine not having them.  Muireall didn't have that option.  She felt it was something she had to hide from others.

Jude aka John felt he had to hide his background.  He wouldn't be loved if they knew the real story.

GOD knew what he was doing when he brought them together:  Two lonely people who hid their true selves from others.

I highly recommend the book especially if you love historical fiction.

More from Andrea

I love to read books that have historical facts, especially little-known ones, woven into their pages. Within my books, I strive to do the same and Return to the Wilderness is no exception.

This book comes in after the unrest of what some call the “Indian Wars,” in Kentucky. During that time, attacks by the native were frequent and brutal. Many of the Station Masters and long hunters in the area lost family members. If you read, Rescue in the Wilderness, you have seen a glimpse of this time and how devastating it could be.

Due to these attacks, stations and settlements were often abandoned. Sometimes the families returned after this time period came to an end and sometimes the buildings were simply left to deteriorate and become shells of a past time. I do not want to give any spoilers, but if you decide to read Return to the Wilderness, you will find out just how this little piece of history impacts the main character, Muireall (the sister from Redemption in the Wilderness).

Dark Secrets on Dressmaker's Alley

Women are being physically attacked on Dressmaker's Alley.  One woman killed.

A killer is on the loose.  The men were up in arms and decided to do something about it.

This book was a page turner.  I loved the characters.  There were families that sincerely cared for each other.  There were neighbors who stood up for each other in their times of need.

This is Book 2 of the Dressmaker's Alley Series.  I have read the previous story and I know I'll read the next. I have to know if Susie will find happiness.  Will Joe and Sarah find true love? Did Sibby make a big mistake leaving a safe place for a man she really didn't know?

I can't say enough about Rosie Clarke's books.  I have enjoyed them all.

Abigail's Pursuit by Jodi Wolfe

Abigail lost her brother, her father and now she was losing her home.  What more could happen?

Daniel just showed up at her front door.  The last person she wanted to see. The last person she expected to see.

Daniel and Abigail had past regrets.  These regrets could threaten their chance of happiness.

I really liked Abigail. She was determined to save her home.  But not at all costs.. she was doing it on her own terms.

I really appreciated Sunday mornings in this book. The Pastor's sermons left the congregation with some powerful messages.

You need to pick up a copy of Abigail's Pursuit. It was a touching and powerful read. A book about redemption and not giving up on hope.

The Pick Pocket Plight

I was so excited to get ahold of this one.  I read the first book and I just hated it to end.  This one continues on with BJ in Australia learning the ranch trade. Alice is thriving in her bakery business.

Is there any chance for the two of them to reunite?

They both were great judges of character.  They developed friendships with quite interesting people.  And it was a delight to get to know them.

The Pick-Pockets’ Plight

They only had each other – now they’re being torn apart.

When thirteen-year-old Bertram Jordan is arrested and sent to a penal colony in Australia, his biggest regret is leaving behind his friend Alice Truelove. The children were each other’s comfort when they had to live rough on Wednesbury heath, surviving on whatever meagre funds they could pilfer from passing market-goers. Now they must face their futures alone.

While BJ is learning to survive and then thrive on a cattle ranch in Fremantle, surrounded by the hundreds of other men and boys who have been shipped from England, Alice is making her own way in the poverty-stricken Black Country. When a stroke of good fortune means that Alice can start her own business, she cunningly disguises her young age, and before long has established a thriving bakery. As her business grows, so do her responsibilities, and Alice relishes the opportunity to help those who helped her when she was down.

But every night as Alice and BJ rest their heads on opposite sides of the world, both go to sleep with the same last thought. Will they ever see each other again?

The Queen of Black Country sagas is back with a fascinating tale of bravery, forever friendship, heartbreak and joy. Perfect for all fans of Katie Flynn, Val Wood and Lyn Andrews.

A Hope Unburied

Titus 3:4-7 ESV

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Am I worthy enough?  Does my life have value?

I believe that these are two questions everyone asks themselves.  Eliza did.

I appreciated the story about  a strong,  but vulnerable woman who loves the Lord.

Not often can I find a book like this.  Eliza had her weak moments but GOD put the right people at the right time in her life.

Eliza was interested in paleontology.  This is quite different career choice for a woman in 1916. Devin was more interested in literature.  They were as different as chalk and cheese but their relationship worked.

Devin and Eliza were lifelong friends.  But could they be more?  I hope so because I loved their characters.

About the Author

Kimberley Woodhouse is an award-winning, bestselling author of more than forty fiction and nonfiction books. Kim and her incredible husband of thirty-plus years live in Colorado, where they play golf together, spend time with their kids and grandkids, and research all the history around them.

More from Kimberley

A couple of years ago, I asked readers on my Facebook page what they were interested in reading in Christian fiction. When one reader and friend suggested I write about the Bone Wars, I was intrigued and instantly excited. I had no idea how much of a blessing writing the Treasures of the Earth series would be.

I traveled all over western Colorado, eastern Utah and southern Wyoming, looking at the incredible displays of bones of magnificent creatures of our past. Stopping at every tiny museum along the way, and even driving miles and miles into the middle of nowhere to find just the right setting for The Secrets Beneath. But it was going to Dinosaur National Monument in Jensen, Utah that truly helped these three books come to life.

The monument was established in October 1915 by President Woodrow Wilson. The 80 acres encompassed the Carnegie Quarry, where paleontologist Earl Douglass was digging, trying to find intact dinosaur skeletons to send back to Carnegie’s museum in Pittsburgh. Eventually, President Franklin D. Roosevelt expanded the park to encompass more than 200,000 acres.

But this monument wouldn’t exist without the determination of one man: Earl Douglass. I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Diane Douglass Iverson, his granddaughter, during one of my research trips. She was generous with her time and memories as she shared her grandfather’s journals and memories with me. The longer we talked, the more the idea for what would be the third book of this series took shape. Though Earl is not a primary character in Eliza’s story, his presence and impact on the science of paleontology is felt through the pages.

In fact, each chapter of all three books has a quote from the book his son created out of his journal entries, titled Speak to the Earth and It Will Teach You. I am grateful to Diane for the opportunity to share his struggles, hopes, and dreams with my readers.

With this last book, I hope you enjoy Eliza’s joyful spirit, as well as her struggles to find her place in this world. She’s a spirited young woman with a passion for fossils and how God has created this incredible planet. You’ll get to visit Dinosaur National Monument with her, seeing the founding of this great national treasure through her eyes. I hope you love visiting there in your imagination and that you get the opportunity to visit on your own someday. But even more than that, I pray that, like Eliza, you find joy and confidence where God has placed you in His story.

A cute story of Anna and her neighbor's plan to find her one.
