A Fond Farewell for the Tobacco Girls

I have not read any books of this series until this one.  I was surprised how quickly I fell in love with the Three M's.

I enjoyed this book and stayed up until 2 am last night to finish it.  I'm not sorry I lacked sleep and will feel yucky today.

I was hoping everything went well for Maisie, Phyllis and Bridget.  These were hard times.  I can't imagine what they had to go through.  The strength of these women were amazing.

I think I need to look up the previous books and discover their back stories. Great book.

Cherishing The Cowgirl

Charity and her sisters run a guest house that they inherited from their Uncle.  Money was tight and Charity was afraid of losing their home.  She had to find a way to raise $500 by the end of the month.

She then meets Hudson.  He feels the need to rescue Charity.  She is stubborn and is not ready to accept any help from him.

The book was a quick and enjoyable read.  You can't help liking Charity.  Like her name, she gives so much of herself to others.  Hudson has a difficult time showing his emotions.  He is more comfortable expressing his feelings with monetary means.  So very opposite of each other but their attraction to each other is strong!

This is Book 2 of the Colorado Cowgirl Series. I love the cover of this book.  Charity is just as beautiful inside as out.

I received this book from the author to review.

Letters of Comfort (Book Two of The Friendship Letters)

In her new book, Wanda is exploring the topic of depression.  Depression runs in my family so it was close to home.

Doretta suffered a loss.  This loss triggered a depression that Doretta couldn't just snap out of or shake off.

Doretta was fortunate to have friends and family that were there for her.  She didn't ask for help but she knew that it was there if needed.

A story that is entertaining and educational.  I read this in two days.  I couldn't stop.

Her Amish Wish

I have been told that living in a small town everyone knows your business.  This seems to be true in Wilma's community.

Love is all around.  Is it possible that Wilma found true love with a dog called Red?  Can Favor and her mother-in-law finally make a truce?

Wilma's friend, Ada, is just as outspoken as always. She is with Wilma everyday.  Is this really okay with Ada's husband?  I haven't read the earlier books so I'm not sure how long Ada has been spending her days at Wilma's house.  Their friendship is rare and very special
They would do anything for each other.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter of this family.

All Change at the Beach Hotel

How wonderful to spend a holiday on the beachfront!  It can be relaxing and invigorating at the same time.  But it is a whole different story when you work at one.  It's no vacation!

Times are difficult.  Many women are taking the jobs men occupied before WW1.  Lili left her hometown with hope for a better future.  She was hired as a chambermaid at the hotel but as time went on she found herself in many different positions. She became very important in the day to day operations of the hotel.

Lili is faithful and loyal.  But there are times that it isn't reciprocated.  Lili will make sacrifices that will completely change the course of her life.

I enjoyed getting to know all the characters who worked at the hotel as well as the guests.  Some were delightful while others were difficult.

I love reading books from this era.  My great grandfather served in WW1 with  British Forces.  I can't imagine the anxiety and pain my great grandmother must have felt when he was away at war and she was left with 5 children.  He died in Egypt in 1917. His body was never returned. My grandmother was only 2 years old.

Committing to the Cowgirl

I was eager to read Jody Hedlund's new book about a cowgirl who became a doctor. Astrid discovered that in 1877 being a female physician was not accepted by many especially men.  So she applies for a position in her former town not expecting to know the current doctor.  Dr. Logan Steele had no idea that the doctor applying was a former friend from childhood.

They share a common interest in medicine.  And before you know it, sparks fly especially with the help of Logan's mother.

Astrid fought to be accepted.  She was good at what she did. Can she allow romance to get in the way of all she accomplished?

I loved the ending.  I know you will to.  It was quite a surprise for me as well as Logan.

It was entertaining.  I also loved that Logan is the name of one of the main characters.  It's my oldest grandson's name.

I received this ebook from the author to review.

Rescue in the Wilderness

We all have scars.  Some are seen.  Some are not.

Lucinda never thought she could escape the abuse.  William Cole just happened to hear her father selling her off in a card game. He had to do something.

Lucinda put all her trust in him.  He did not want to let her down.  What a lovely story.  I read it so quickly.  Lucinda and William were wonderful characters that were perfect for each other.  But they had to learn to accept their shortcomings before they could accept each other.

About the Book

Book: Rescue in the Wilderness

Author: Andrea Byrd

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: June 27, 2023

William Cole cannot forget the cruel burden he carries, not with the pock marks that serve as an outward reminder. Riddled with guilt, he assumed the solitary life of a long hunter, traveling into the wilds of Kentucky each year. But his quiet existence is changed in an instant when, sitting in a tavern, he overhears a man offering his daughter—and her virtue—to the winner of the next round of cards. William’s integrity and desire for redemption will not allow him to sit idly by while such an injustice occurs.

Lucinda Gillespie has suffered from an inexplicable illness her entire life. Her father, embarrassed by her condition, has subjected her to a lonely existence of abuse and confinement. But faced with the ultimate betrayal on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Lucinda quickly realizes her trust is better placed in his hands of the mysterious man who appears at her door. Especially when he offers her the one thing she never thought would be within her grasp—freedom.

In the blink of an eye, both lives change as they begin the difficult, danger-fraught journey westward on the Wilderness Trail. But can they overcome their own perceptions of themselves to find love and the life God created them for?

More from Andrea

There is so much inspiration that fed into the creation of Rescue in the Wilderness.

Not only was the Good Lord’s guiding hand ever-present, but so was the influence of those that came before me. This story was inspired by my own ancestors, as well as the countless others, that made the arduous journey through Cumberland Gap to settle in Kentucky. Those brave souls opened up a whole new world, and for some of us, established the area in which their families would preside for centuries to come.

As a lover of books that integrate history into fiction myself, I also wished to shed light on the “Hard Winter” of 1779-1780. This was a winter that came early, and with great intensity. While it caused hardships for many across the country, it made the journey through the Cumberland Gap all the more perilous.

Beyond these historical facts, I also wished to pay tribute to those who suffer from chronic pain conditions. I will never forget the day a friend of mine, whom the Lord called home all too soon, told me of her childhood rheumatoid arthritis and how there were days she was in too much pain to leave her bed. In this book, I wished to explore what pioneer life might have been for someone who suffered from such a condition.

Revell- The All-American

The cover caught my interest right away.  Maybe it was due to the color red or the mitt and ball in her hand.  Whatever, this story kept me interested until the very last page.

This family like all families have their ups and downs.  But how they deal with it, is the story.

What's more American than baseball? One of the daughters, Bertha, loves baseball.  It gives her opportunities that few are offered.

The youngest daughter, Flossie, is a hoot.  She is a firecracker.  She brings so much life to the family.  Her vibrancy affects so many.  I love her conversations with her family members.

There is a line in the book that I can't forget.  Their Dad was quite wise.  He wrote "  I can’t change the pain, but I can fight to remember the good in everything."  This is worth remembering.

I loved that it was based in Michigan.  I didn't have any idea about that.   I live in Michigan so I could relate to the story locations.

Thanks to Revell I was given the opportunity to read this and review.

The Amish Nanny's Promise

The cover called my name.  How adorable the children are.  The smiles on their faces are precious.  It is obvious that there is much love between them.  But is their any love at all between Fern and Nick?

A touching story about dealing with loss and having hope for the future.  Fern would do anything to take care of her deceased cousin's children.  Does this include marrying their father? Could she be in a loveless marriage?

My husband was a widower when I met him.  I know that his previous wife wanted him to marry again after she passed. She told him so.  She wanted him to be happy.  He met me the following year after her death.  I am thankful that she gave him and his 14 year daughter her blessings to carry on.  We just celebrated 16 years of marriage. And we couldn't be happier.  I am confident that GOD brought us together and that his deceased wife had her hand in it.

Charity made them promise to care for her children and keep her memory alive. Did she have a bigger plan for her husband and cousin?  With GOD'S intervention, anything is possible.

I loved the book.  This is my first book by Amy Grochowski. It sure won't be my last.
