Seven Brides for Seven Texans

Their father gave his seven Texas sons an ultimatum.  Why? What's the rush? By the end of the year, each son must take a bride to inherit his part of the estate.

Each son was strong, handsome and determined to accomplish their father's request.

There are seven stories by seven different authors in this collection. I was familiar with most. Each story was about one brother. By the end of the collection, I felt connected to the Hart Family.

I appreciate collections like this. I can easily read one story at night and pick up the next later on.

These clean and wholesome stories were just to my liking. I would have loved it if the Hart's had seven more brothers.

I received this from Celebrate Lit to review.

About the Authors

Gabrielle Meyer, a Minnesota native, draws inspiration for her historical fiction from the rich stories and landscapes of her home state, where she lives on the banks of the upper Mississippi River with her husband and four children. A former employee of the Minnesota Historical Society, Gabrielle loves weaving real people, places, and events into her captivating tales.

Best-selling, award-winning author Erica Vetsch weaves her love for Jesus, history, romance, and sports into her stories, including The Debutante’s Code, the first in the Thorndike & Swann Regency Mystery Series. When she’s not crafting fiction or planning her next trip to a history museum.

Bestselling author Amanda Barratt brings to life overlooked moments in history through her award-winning novels, including The Warsaw SistersWithin These Walls of Sorrow, and The White Rose Resists. Based in Michigan, she’s often immersed in research, tackling her ever-growing TBR stack, or savoring a slice of lemon cake.

Carol Award finalist Lorna Seilstad explores life’s complexities with humor in her nine novels, including the Lake Manawa Summers and Gregory Sisters series, as well as several novella collections. When she’s not writing, she teaches women’s Bible classes, runs a toy store, plans weddings, or spends time with her Pyredoodle, Honey Bea.

Keli Gwyn crafts inspirational historical romances that she loves to read. A California native, she now lives in the greater Sacramento area with her husband and their sweet orange tabby, enjoying life close to family.

Vickie McDonough, a CBA, EPCA, and Amazon best-selling author of 54 books and novellas, brings the Old West to life in her award-winning romances featuring ranchers, cowboys, and lawmen. Though married to a computer geek who fears horses, she lives out her ranching dreams through her stories—and when she’s not writing, she enjoys reading, gardening, making cards, and traveling.

More from Erica

Hi, I’m Erica Vetsch, and I loved collaborating on the stories for the 7 Brides for 7 Texans collection. It was fun writing stories that were so intertwined, and working closely with the other authors in the collection to bring the whole concept together.

Initially, I was approached by a publisher, asking if I would be interested in heading up a novella collection loosely based on the idea of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, the classic musical. The parameters were that the stories must be no longer than 25K words, be historical in setting, and that I could choose the overall concept, as well as my team of authors.

I, of course, jumped at the chance. Before I contacted anyone, I worked up a rough idea of the premise of the stories. A wealthy Texas rancher with seven strapping sons is tired of waiting for them to get married and provide him with grandchildren, so he issues an ultimatum. Get married by the end of the calendar year, or you’re disinherited.

I named all the sons after famous Texans, and gave them a birth order, then I began contacting writing friends to see if they were interested in joining the project. Everyone I asked said yes! 😊

Then the real fun began. We formed a private Facebook group, and as the characters were chosen by the various authors, the order of the stories in the collection formed, and as ideas for storylines poured in, I began creating what we came to call The Master Document.

In the MD we tracked main characters’ names and appearances, secondary characters, a map of the fictional town of Hartsville, TX, and more. It eventually ran to more than 20 pages of information. We named the town newspaper, the general store, and kept track of the layout of the Harts’ massive ranch house. Keeping these details all in one place made it easy for the authors to flesh out their story world in a way that was consistent with everyone else’s stories.

Because the stories are so closely tied and on such a tight timeline, each of the authors’ characters would appear in another author’s novella. We needed to respect each other’s visions for the characters and treat them with respect, while also having the freedom to write our own stories.

Early on, as the project coordinator, it was established that if a dispute arose between two authors on how something should go, it would be myself who would cast the final vote. However, that contingency never came into play, as all the authors worked so well together.

One of the most challenging aspects of the project was, that as the project lead, and the one writing the final story in the collection, I needed to know the most about all the stories. Just before the deadline to turn our stories into the publisher, each author sent their story along to me to read for continuity. I spent a long weekend at author Gabrielle Meyer’s house, and we read every novella aloud, making notes for consistency and continuity throughout. These notes were turned in to the project editor, and she used them in her editing process to make sure seven separate stories felt cohesive.

It truly was a fun—and to me—unique, project, and when the publisher asked if I would like to head up a follow up collection, I was eager to say yes, and thus 7 Brides for 7 Texas Rangers was born.

Both of these intertwined collections went out of print, but they are now being released once more, this time through Wild Heart Books. I’m thrilled that we can tell our stories to new readers and prolong the lives of these characters.

Troubled Times for Tilly

Tilly loves her family with all her heart.  She is very protective of her children but knows she has to let go.  Will her daughter go down the same path as she? Will her son be influenced by his father's family?

Her marriage to Sam is a treasure to behold. He is there by her side through thick and thin. What a man!  I totally get it as I have the best husband myself.

Her family has had one upset after another. But can they survive the loss of Maggie May? The ship her husband loves the most.

Everytime Tilly's daughter went out to an event, I held my breath.  Please keep her safe. I prayed that she had a good head on her shoulders. And I'm not her mother!

I enjoyed the story. Very entertaining. I loved Tilly.

I received this book to review from Boldwood Books.

A Season of Secrets

Reading an Amish Bonnet Sisters Series is like being at home. I love all the characters. I always look forward to an update of this wonderful family.

There always seems to be drama with Matthew. His lovelife is like riding a roller coaster. Will he ever find true love and happiness?

Wilma and Ada continue on with their close friendship.  Do you have a friendship that has lasted for years?  My longest friendship has lasted 40 years so far.

A delightful story that is a pleasure to read. The characters  always come to life for me. I open the book and it's like a family reunion.

-The Girls Who Dared to Love

I almost didn't read this new book by Diney Costeloe.  I'm so glad I did. A couple of nights staying up late to finish that last chapter was well worth it.

I loved the ladies that made up "The Girls". They each had their struggles. Each young woman figured out what they were capable of.

Lucinda was eager to help others as she waited for her husband to come home from war. Mabel was focused on her career until she met Charles.

Strong women, stronger than they thought they were.

I hope to assume there will be a sequel. I want to know what the future holds for THE GIRLS WHO DARED TO LOVE.

Lizzie has the greatest friends. They are supportive and have her back at all times. She also starts to see her friend's brother as more than a friend.

About the Author

Anne Blackburne lives and works in Southeast Ohio as a newspaper editor and writer. She is the mother of five grown children, has one wonderful grandchild, and a spoiled poodle named Millie. For fun, when she isn’t working on Amish romance or sweet mysteries, Anne directs and acts in community theater productions and writes and directs original plays. She also enjoys reading, kayaking, swimming, searching for beach glass, and just sitting with a cup of coffee looking at large bodies of water. Her idea of the perfect vacation is cruising and seeing amazing new places with people she loves.

More from Anne

I’m so excited that once again, the amazing bloggers who work with Celebrate Lit are going to do a blog tour for my brand new book in Barbour’s “Heart of the Amish” series, “Lizzie’s Little Mouse”!

Lizzie’s story is available now to readers in print and online wherever fine books are sold, and I feel so blessed to have the help of the Celebrate Lit folks in launching this wonderful story.

If you read either of my previous two books in the series, “Ruth’s Gingersnap Surprise” and “Mary’s Calico Hope”, you’ll remember Elizabeth Miller, their sassy friend with the darling Haflinger pony named Goldie who gave Mary a ride one morning before church services. Elizabeth, or Lizzie, was also mentioned in Ruth’s story as one of the lucky recipients of a kitten from their elderly friend, Lydia’s, cat’s final litter.

Lizzie’s cat is a gray kitty she named Petit Souris, which is French for Little Mouse. Why Little Mouse? Because as a tiny kitten, the darling reminded Lizzie of a mouse!

And why the French name? Well, our heroine is not your typical Amish miss. After attending a wedding in New Orleans as a teen and tasting the amazing baked goods for which the city is renowned, Lizzie began dreaming of opening her very own New Orleans style French bakery – in Ohio’s Amish country!

She loves everything to do with New Orleans, and learned to speak their dialect of French while doing an internship in a bakery there when she was 18. Upon returning home she went to work at the local bakery to learn more about the business, and to save up for her dreams.

As the story opens, we find that Lizzie’s dream has come true! It’s opening day of The Plain Beignet, Lizzie’s bakery in Willow Creek, Ohio. Everyone comes out to wish her well, including friends you’ll recognize from my first two books!

But when something unexpected and frightening happens during the grand opening, it becomes apparent that not everyone is as happy as Lizzie and her friends about her success.

Along with some help from her pals, and her best friend Jane’s handsome big brother, John, Lizzie will get to the bottom of the mystery of who wants to put her out of business, and why!

They discover, among other things, that Lizzie’s bakery was the site of a murder a hundred years before! What could this historic crime have to do with Lizzie’s current problems?

As she, John and their friends search for clues, Lizzie will discover that there’s more baking than her latest batch of beignets!

Could it be romance?

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Lizzie’s story! This book is my third in Barbour Publishing’s series, “The Heart of the Amish”. Look for other great reads in the series from authors Mindy Steele and Lisa Jones Baker.

I’m currently writing my fourth book in the series, which will feature a young woman you’ve met in all my other stories, Jane Bontrager.

Just like her friends, Jane received a kitten from their friend, Lydia; a little brown tabby. Her story, “Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer”, is due out in early winter 2026. .

I hope you’re having as much fun reading about these remarkable young women – and their kitties! – as I’m having writing about them. Thanks for being part of our journey!

As for me and mine, we are all well and enjoying spring in southeast Ohio. In other words, enjoying the sunshine, but carrying a sweater and an umbrella, just in case!

God bless you and yours!

Joyfully,

Anne Blackburne

Jody Hedlund- A Wager with the Matchmaker

Michigan has much to be proud of. We are known for our Great Lakes. We have coney dogs. We also have Little Caesars, Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. But most of all we have Jody Hedlund!

A Wager with the Matchmaker is the third book of the  Shanahan Match series by Ms. Hedlund. And I have loved every one!

Bellamy, the Matchmaker was one clever Irishman. He knew what he was doing even though Alannah and Kiernan weren't exactly sure who they were to be matched with.

I really enjoyed the story. Alannah and Kiernan came from completely different backgrounds. Is there a chance they could have a future together?

The Matchmaker, Bellamy, is an interesting character himself. I look forward to the next book as the Matchmaker might make a match of his own.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Land of Dreams

Amalia and her parents were making a difficult journey across the ocean from Norway to America. America was the "Land of Dreams".

That sure sounded familiar to my Mom's journey in the 1950s.  Thank God, the ship was more modern and probably an easier journey.  She immigrated with her Mom and siblings to America from England. Her father came the year before to save up for them to come.

My Mom has told me how difficult it was to fit in and be accepted.   Her father got a house in an Italian neighborhood.  There were language difficulties. Cultural differences.

Amalia experienced this when she first arrived. Fortunately, she met some wonderful neighbors. She was accepted and cherished.

A wonderful story. Lauraine Snelling knows how to write a book that leaves you wanting more.  The characters were wonderful. The plot keeps you turning the page.

Just lovely to read.

More from Lauraine

Different stories come about different ways.  One of the things I’ve learned through these years of writing is the value of slowly waking up and paying attention to what was going on in my mind. I saw a young woman standing at the railing of a ship tossing on rough seas. A gray day. And I heard the splash as her father’s body sank into the waves. I sniffed, mopped my eyes and settled back, hopefully to sleep awhile longer. But the dream, if that was what it was, continued. A little girl named Rut, or Ruthie, joined Amalia at the rail, slipped her hand into the young woman’s and asked if she could please come, her mother wanted to see her. And my internal game of what if continued for these people on a cholera attacked ship from Norway to Amerika.

I knew a new story had begun but had no idea where it was going. As I said, I treasure that time between sleeping and waking when I can part the curtains to my subconscious mind and see what it has been playing with. What a gift God has created in us.

Around about the same time, something brought a story that one of my aunts on my father’s side told me when I asked her what she remembered of her growing up years. Auntie Harriet chuckled and asked, “Have you heard of the rutabaga years?” I shook my head and settled in to listen. They were a family of eleven children, my dad being the eldest, they lived in a big two story house with a huge garden, a flock of chickens and bad weather. Late spring freeze, early fall freeze and much of the produce killed off. All but the root crops, and rows of rutabagas. Many were dug and stored in the cellar, lots left in the ground, to be dug up later. Rutabagas can be fried, boiled, mashed, grated, turned into soup and stew, mixed with other vegetables, added to pancakes, even turned into pie. Ah, yes, the rutabaga years, Auntie Harriet said she didn’t particularly care for rutabagas for a long time after that. But in the mean time, they became part of Amalia and Ruthie’s new life at a big house Ruthie inherited in Green Creek. North and West of Decorah Iowa in 1819. Come join a delightful cast of characters in Land of Dreams.

Philippians 4:12 reveals a profound truth: there is a “secret to learning contentment.” As Paul declares in the next verse, the secret is the strength Christ provides: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Just as a tree’s unseen root system gathers vital resources for the tree, the unseen part of contentment is being “rooted and built up in Christ” (Colossians 2:7).

With Being Content God’s Way, you will…learn to “be content with what you have” (Hebrews 13:5) enjoy personal stories and application to daily life be equipped to put off covetousness (Colossians 3:5) receive biblical answers to common questions discover why “godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6-10)

Contentment is not an elusive concept. Instead, it is a tangible reality within our reach through a relationship with Christ.

Book Excerpt

My wife, Katie, and I were walking through the woods hand in hand, enjoying observing the trees around us. Many trees were enormous, old, and gnarly but healthy and thriving. Unseen by the two of us, the trees’ vast root system stretched below ground to gather needed resources. We only see the tree above ground, but the roots below provide the strength. Similarly, the essential part of Christian contentment is the part nobody sees—the strength Christ provides. We will discuss these verses in depth in chapter ten, but for now, as the apostle Paul wrote, “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I can do all things through [Christ] who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:11, 13). We must have roots deep into Christ to obtain the strength to be content.

The Old Testament looked forward to this:

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit (Jeremiah 17:7−8).

Drawing the Line

Samantha Price wrote this cute story of how two people from completely different worlds meet. Their meeting was quite a collision course.

Handsome, rich and nice guy, Ethan, meets artistic Maya. She's not anything like the other women he has dated or even looked at.  Maya has no interest in this billionaire who has destroyed her life.

You never know what might happen. A weekend away. A few non-dates. Sparks fly and the unexpected happens!

I have been reading Ms. Price's books for awhile now. I am amazed that she can write Amish romance, contemporary fiction and even Amish fiction. I have loved them all.  This one is enjoyable. Maya's Mom is a hoot. She sure is pushing for a rich husband for Maya. Maybe Ethan will fit the bill?

I received this book from the author to review.

Samantha Price wrote stories from a young age, but it wasn't until later in life that she took up writing full time. Samantha is best known for the Ettie Smith Amish Mysteries series and the Expectant Amish Widows series.
