Irma was abused as a child.  Homer, her stepfather, was the abuser.  Homer's abuse didn't stop there.  His violent behavior impacted the whole family for years.  Irma's mother carried the guilt of not stopping him.

This book was difficult at times to read. Victims of abuse carry the seen and  unseen scars.  Irma's stepfather had power over her years after the abuse ended. Even after he died. She was unable to forget. Was it even possible to forgive him?   

Irma was fortunate that she had a caring and forgiving husband and a great friend that wrote to her LETTERS OF WISDOM.  Their love and understanding led Irma to take that steps to get the help to heal and to forgive.  

Powerful story.
