Amish Firefighter by Laura V. Hilton

At first the title confused me.  An Amish Firefighter?  But the story unfolds with Sam Miller who not only drives but is a volunteer firefighter.  He appears to have it all together but he has a secret.  He is having a very difficult time coming to terms with it.  He has been dating an Englisher.  She is trouble and he knows it but he continues to see her until he is in trouble, too.

Abigail Miller is new to the area and she has not made a very good impression.  She was recently sent to Jamesport, Missouri.  She doesn't know why and feels unwanted and confused.  She knows there must be a reason for this but doesn't have a clue why.  She can't understand how her mother could do this to her.  She is trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together but being accused of being a fire starter needs to be addressed first.

Abigail and Sam's paths cross when she is discovered at the scene of a fire.  Sam doesn't want to believe that she caused the damage but she was there.

As the story continues, Abigail learns the truth about her family and the family secrets that altered the course of her life and others before her.  Sam finally comes to term with his past mistakes and knows what he must do to make it right.

Abigail and Sam learn to trust in the Lord.  With this trust, they learn to trust each other and fall in love.

I was frustrated at times by Abigail's choices.  I wanted to shout at her to not go out with Miriam again after what happened the first time!!!  It was slow at first but by the third chapter I was hooked.  It is sad that keeping a secret means lying and keeping more secrets.  Character development was excellent and I look forward to reading more of Laura V. Hilton.

Forever Safe by Jody Hedlund

I never get tired of reading a book that keeps me turning page after page with pure delight. I loved this book and was so sad when I was finished.
This book tells the tale of Victoria Cole and Tom Cushman. They each have hidden fears of commitment. This stops them from being Forever Safe.
Victoria was at risk and needed protection. Arch, her guard, has been by her side faithfully until he was injured while protecting her. Arch referred Tom Cushman for the job. Tom takes his jobs very seriously. He was apprehensive in protecting Victoria. She was too young and beautiful. He knew it would be difficult to keep himself safe from emotional attachment if he allowed himself to get too close to Victoria.
Victoria was too trustworthy and it often put herself at risk. She was surprised to find out who was behind the threats and attacks against her. She found herself falling for her Tom.
Tom was not at peace or safe due to painful memories and guilty feelings he carried with him for years. Once he learned to trust GOD he was able to let go of his negative thoughts and heal.
Beautiful story. There were some unexpected twists and turns. Jody Hedlund- I am always ready for your new releases!

The Quieting by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Romance stories centered on Amish families, their lifestyles and their beliefs captivates their audiences. I am included. The Quieting delivers a warm and inviting story of the families in Stoney Ridge.

Abigail Stoltzfus is on a mission. She comes to Stoney Ridge to complete some genealogical research. Her grandmother's mission is to find a husband for Abigail. Grandmother Tillie is convinced that if Abigail controls the way she behaves it will happen. Abigail would love nothing more to find that special someone but not if she has to conform to her grandmother's standards. Abigail is trying to learn to accept that she will never find someone that will love her for whom she is.

Dane Glick is a young man that is convinced Abigail is the one for him. He has no desire to change her. Abigail is not so sure.....

David Stoltfus is living his life alone after his wife died. He should be happy raising his family. He is not sure if he has room in his heart to love anyone ever again. He is attracted to Birdy Glick. His mother, Tillie, is convinced she is not the right one for him. David has the additional struggle in his dealings with Bishop Glick, Birdy's brother. David, Dane and Abigail all must be true to themselves in order to find happiness.

The title of this book is called The Quieting. This is a method of church discipline. But I took the title to mean that David, Dane and Abigail can't silence their feelings. This only leads to confusion, hurt and loss. When they finally speak up and express their desires, true happiness is possible.

Anchor in the Storm by Sarah Sundin

Sarah Sundin has been one of my go to writers ever since I discovered her books last year.  She has never disappointed me yet.  She always delivers a story that is real and loved by her readers.  Her main characters in this story are Lillian and Arch.

Lillian and Arch desires to be loved despite their handicaps, flaws or lifestyles.  They both do not believe it's possible.  It almost becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy for both.  Lillian doesn't think anyone can look behind her wooden leg.  Her heart is closed and she won't let anyone in.  She had a horrible experience in the past and is so afraid it will happen again.

Arch has lived a privileged life.  He joins the Military to escape the trappings of being rich.  He doesn't trust that someone can love him for whom he is and not what his name represents.

Arch and Lillian meet.  They each have their own secrets and pain that they endure silently.  They are attracted to each other but their chance of a relationship is null until they Trust in the Lord and know deep in their hearts He is Their Anchor.

As the story develops, Arch and Lillian let down their guards and realize love might just be possible.

This is not just a love story.  This book involves a mystery to be solved by Arch and Lillian.  As a team, they learn to accept what they can not change, solve a mystery and learn that love is possible.

I rate this 5 stars!  I stayed up very late one night to finish this.  Absolutely loved it!

Magnolia Duchess by Beth White

This book delivers.  If you love historical fiction, read this.  If you love romance, read this.  If you love a good story, read Magnolia Duchess by Beth White.

The main characters are Fiona and Charles.  They both have responsibilities.  They both go to extremes to protect what they love.  Fiona is strong, independent and passionate.  She will do what it takes to protect her family, her home, her horses and her country.  Charles has a strong sense of duty as  British officer.  He  knows what he must and is expected to do.  The problem is that they are on the opposite sides of the war.

What will they do?  Can Fiona trust Charles?  Should Charles abandon his position for the woman he loves?  Could they live without each other?  Is their a solution to their dilemma?

Beth White allows the reader to experience the inner turmoil and struggles they share.  This book is much more than just a romance.  There is much historical detail in this book.  I loved it.

Playing The Part by Jen Turano

Playing The Part by Jen Turano
This third book concludes the series with Lucetta, Harriett and Millie. Their friend, Abigal, loves to be a matchmaker. She was quite successful for Harriett and Millie. Abigal was eager to try her hand for Lucetta. She knew of the perfect match!
Things don't go smoothly for Lucetta. She works hard to save her family home after promising her father (on his deathbed) that she will take care of her mother. But her mother makes it more difficult than it should be when she marries a neighbor who likes to drink and gamble. He gambled and lost Lucetta in a card game.
Abigal knows that Lucetta must hide to be saved from her stalker. Abigal has a plan. They will go to her grandson, Bram's home. To me, this is when the story picked up. Everyone is trying to figure out what he does for a living. Is his house haunted? Is he involved in illegal activities? Bram's has his secrets. Abigal wants nothing to do with Bram's and Abigal's matchmaking. Lucetta also has secrets. She usually hides under the role she plays as an actress. No one really knows who she really is.
Bram and Lucetta both keep people at a distance. They both have secrets. As their relationship grows they feel comfortable enough to share their pastake and sparks begin to fly.
Great story. Lovely to read a romance story with a little humor. Each book has had a place for an animal to play a significant part In the storyline. This book had a goat who was scared of petticoats.
I was was glad that I read book one and two as it did help me with the flow of this book. I recommend Playing The Part for an enjoyable read. Jen Turano once again delivered. Five stars!

A Girl's Guide to Moving On by Debbie Macomber

Debbie Macomber did it again!  I love everything she writes.  I have never been disappointed.  I quickly got into the story as I have been divorced and I knew how they felt.  I loved how Leanne was able to forgive and take care of her ex-husband as he was dying.  It should have been difficult for her but she followed Jesus' teachings.  Nichole was crushed when she found her husband was cheating on her.  It took bravery to leave him.  It took bravery to not give in to his threats.  Leanne and Nichole were a great support to each other.  I loved seeing how they grew stronger as the days went by.  Stronger in their faith....strong enough to love again.

Maggie Brendan's A Sweet Misfortune

I believe that this is the second book I have read by Ms. Brendan but it won't be my last.  I LOVED it and will check out every book she has written.

Her characters are so loveable and I was swiftly carried away by  this warm and wonderful family.

John and his grandmother, Estelle, share a very close bond.  He would do absolutely anything for her but get married.  Estelle wants the best for John which includes marriage.  Rachel is trying so hard to take care of herself until her brother returns but John comes to rescue her.  Little does John knows that Rachel will rescue him.

The book has a theme of acceptance that runs through it.  Rachel was accepted by the community even after they discovered she was a dancer at the saloon.  She did not judge others and remained friends with her fellow dancers at the risk of  her reputation.  Rachel loved her family with all her heart.  She only had her brother, Preston.   She couldn't bear the thought that her brother didn't return and help save the family home.  What was she going to do?  She had a difficult time to accept that her family home was lost to her.   But GOD had a plan for Rachel and John.

I didn't just read this book, I was part of the family.  I look forward to more books by Maggie Brendan.

Red Door Inn by Liz Johnson

I always love the opportunity to read a new author's book.  You have no idea what to expect.  This was the first book I have read by Liz Johnson.  I was ready to open the door at the Red Door Inn and get to know all who lived there.

Jack had a dream.  His dream was to fulfill his deceased wife's dream to open a bed and breakfast on Prince Edward Island.  Marie had the need to escape.  Seth had to learn to forgive and forget.  Jack had such a big heart.  He was dealing with his own grief but he saw how Marie needed to be rescued.  He already had his nephew, Seth, helping him complete Rose's dream.

Marie always was trying to win her father's approval.  She never could even if it meant she was giving up her dreams.  She found it hard to believe that Jack really meant what he said that she could stay and help him complete the inn.  Seth was burned by his past love and didn't trust Marie.  He was keeping an eye on her as it was just a matter of time she was going to rip off Jack.

Seth and Marie eventually learned to let down their guard and shared their pain.  They learned to trust again.  This is when they healed.  Jack was so busy fulfilling his deceased wife's dream that he didn't really know what he wanted until he met Aretha, the shop owner down the street.

What a delight to to be a guest at the Red Door Inn.  All were welcome.  It was a place to call home.  A place to find peace and and allow God to give you the strength and guidance to make your dreams come true.

A Worthy Heart by Susan Anne Mason

I am hooked on anything that Susan Anne Mason writes. I am ready for more! Since my family immigrated to America from England, I love anything that has to do with immigration. I read the first book in this series and was anxiously waiting for this one. It did not disappoint. I hope there will be a third book in this series. Adam and Maggie are a wonderful couple who give each other encouragement and strength during their ups and downs. Adam feels he is not worthy of Maggie's love and affection. Maggie sees who Adam really is and not how Adam sees himself. God has plans for Adam and Maggie. They both need to trust God.

I loved John, Adam's friend. He was a Godsend to Adam. He made Adam realize that he is never alone as God is with him always. He also tried to encourage Adam to let go of his anger and to forgive his father. In order for Adam to forgive his father, he had to forgive himself.

I couldn't help loving Adam and Maggie's story. I didn't want the book to end.

Hannah's Choice by Jan Drexler

I have never heard of this author but I received this book for free and was willing to give it a try.  I am so glad I did.  I took a risk on an author I have never heard from and had an enjoyable time reading this book.

To take a risk is the central theme in this book.  Hannah is the main character is this book.  She is a not sure what path to take.  Should she stay at her much loved home or go out of her comfort zone?  Could she risk everything she knows for the unknown?

Adam is the young man she has known since she was a child.  Should he risk everything to do what he thinks is right?

Josef risked everything to come to America and to trust Hannah.

Annalise is afraid to risk of letting go of her grief and to trust God.

Liesbet risked everything to love someone that no one liked or trusted.

Hannah's father risked leaving the ancestral home to save his family.  Is this the right move for them?

I am not one to take risks.  I do not go out too far from my comfort zone.  But I came from a family that took a giant leap and risked coming to America.  My mother and her family immigrated to America in the 1950's.  It couldn't have been easy but it was worth the risk to them.

I absolutely loved this book!  I am adding Jan Drexler to my must read author list.

Samantha Price- SECRET

Trust finds herself once again risking everything. One false step she'll be in jail again. This book was more exciting to me than the ot...
