Trusting Grace by Maggie Brendan

I completed this book in just a couple of days-eager for Grace to find love and happiness!  Grace Bidwell is a woman of kindness, integrity and tenderness.  She is dedicated to get father and her friends.  Life hasn't worked out as she planned and she feels that her chance for happiness has slipped by.

But.... Robert Frazier comes to town looking for job.  He is employed by Grace but he found much more.

I cheered when the bad guy was defeated and was delighted when Grace and Robert discovered that life doesn't always turn out the way you planned.

Trusting Grace was a wonderful book to escape in.....trust me.....you'll love it!!

FOR LOVE AND HONOR BY JODY HEDLUND

There hasn't been one Jody Hedlund's book that I haven't loved.  She never disappoints.   I never would have known this was a juvenile book without checking first.

This book centers around Bennet and Sabine.  They each have a cross to bear.  Bennet needs to save his ancestral home and belongings.  Sabine has a secret that she cannot share with anyone.

With a little scheming, Bennet and Sabine are brought together. I enjoyed their banter back and forth and was surprised in the twist of the story at the end.

Sabine was caged like a bird.  In order to be set free, she had to be open and allow herself to trust in the Lord that all will be ok.

Bennet learned that belongings and treasures really didn't make you rich.  His relationship with his loved ones was what mattered.

Great story for a senior like me as well as the audience it was written for.

Once again, Ms. Hedlund entertained me with her excellent writing skills.

A Spring of Weddings

A short and sweet collection of unexpected love:  One story is of a soon to be daughter-in-law and her fiance's mother and the other is about a couple doing a favor for their friends.
June is usually the time for weddings but in this collection Spring is the time for love.  I loved both stories and quickly Was involved in the storyline.

A Proxy Wedding - Carly wasn't too thrilled to go on a car trip with a stranger.  But this car trip changed her life.

Hope Beyond Savannah-  Lily adored her fiance.  But his mother was hard to get a long with.  Will the marriage be called off?  I loved that this story involved a family from Samoa.

Great read for the Spring..the time for renewal....where things come to life again.  Enjoyed every moment.  I will recommend this collection...

Treasured Grace by Tracie Peterson

Treasured Grace by Tracie Peterson

When is the next book coming out?  I will be first in line for that one.  This story swept me up on the very first page.  Grace thought of others more than for herself.  She made decisions based on her head than her heart.  She paid the consequences for sacrificing her happiness.

Grace and her sisters were traveling West for a new life.  They got more than they bargained for.

The definition of GRACE in the dictionary is "do honor or credit to (someone or something) by one's presence."  This describes Grace perfectly.  She was a joy to know - a sister I would have Treasured to have.

 Five stars.  Loved it!

Witch by Denise Weimer

Witch

Whew!  It was wonderful!  Great story.  A meaningful message.

This book is the third of the series called Restoration.  I am so happy that I read book one and two.  It gave me the opportunity to see Jennifer and Michael's growth as they were fully restored.  They both carried such a heavy load and this created difficulty for their relationship to develop.

GOD brought the two together.  He knew their hurts and struggles.  But GOD had a plan for them. GOD is a waster of nothing.  GOD knew it was a matter of time that when they turned to him that all of their pain, sorrow and loss would vanish.

GOD is the RESTORER.  He has the power to cleanse our souls when we give our lives to him.  GOD is there to pick us up when we fall, to hold us when we are hurt  and to strengthen us when we are weak.

GOD was there for Jennifer.  She only had to open her heart to his WORD and she was on the path to recovery.  It took Michael a little more time but when they embraced the love of GOD, healing took place and their love could flourish.

I loved this book as well as the whole series.  It was thought provoking and made me want to move to that community

On a sidenote, my stepdaughter graduated in April 2016 with her Master's in Historic Preservation.  My interest to read this was peaked when I saw that it was based on Jennifer restoring historic properties.

Lovely book.  Five stars.

BY LINDA SHENTON MATCHETT

Chaz had no memories of his life before.  Allison had faith and believed that their love could be renewed.

A Bible verse came to me while reading this collection.

John 4:13-14
Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."

Spring is a time of new life.  Renewal.

I loved the collection by three authors I have never heard before.  Great job and a wonderful start to my Spring reading.

Is she dead?

STILL LIFE BY DANI PETTREY

What an ending!  I never would have guessed the outcome.  I was totally surprised.  This genre isn't one I normally pick up.  I was ready for a change as I seem to read the same type of book over and over.

Avery has a lot on her shoulders.  She carries the shame of her past.  She also feels responsible for her friend, Skylar.

It was enjoyable and so suspenseful.  I quickly turned page after page until the ending.

Will Avery learn to forgive herself?

Will Parker allow himself to love again?

Will Skylar be found?

Who is responsible?

Dani Pettrey has all the answers.  I loved the suspense and enjoyed this book.

This is one book that makes you eager for the ending so the mystery is wrapped up but sad when it was over.

Great book!

Amish Cooking Class
THE SEEKERS

BY Wanda Brunstetter

What is not to love about Wanda's books?  I am always eager to start a new book by Wanda Brunstetter.  It is so easy to be caught up into her books and finish it within a few days.  That is why I took my time in starting this delightful story of Heidi Troyer and her cooking class.  I knew that I wouldn't be able to put it down until the very last page.

Heidi not only taught her students how to cook but to learn that  God has a plan for each one of us.  Each student has an obstacle to overcome but God was right there beside them paving the way for better days ahead.

I loved this book and am looking forward to any future sequels.  Ms. Brunstetter hit it out of the park with The Seekers.  I highly recommend this to read.  I have never been disappointed by anything she has written.

Amish Wanderer by LauraV. Hilton

Amish Wanderer by Laura V. Hilton

I completed this book with difficulty.  I felt so sad for the main character, Bethany Weiss.  I so wanted to give her a hug and let her know that ALL IS FORGIVEN and that she is loved by God.

To feel this strongly is due to the writing skills of Ms. Hilton.  My feelings for Bethany were strong.  She needed to learn that she can be loved by just being Bethany.  It wasn't easy for her to learn.  So many people don't know how to let go of their pasts and the pain continues to cause such grief.

Silas Beiler found him himself in Jonesport, Missouri as he wandered from town to town to escape his childhood shame.  He couldn't stay there long as he didn't want to risk his secret coming out and falling for Bethany.  Bethany saw Silas as a way to escape her shameful secrets.

Both had to learn that their location couldn't and would not take away these feelings.  When they fInally put their faith and love on God, healing took place.

This  book dealt with very serious issues.

Four stars.
Laura V. Hilton
Amish fiction lovers responded positively and immediately to Laura V. Hilton’s debut novel, Patchwork Dreams, when she burst on the scene in 2009 with her unique series, The Amish of Seymour, set in the tiny town of Seymour, in Webster County, Missouri. Fans of the genre immediately recognized Hilton’s insider knowledge, not only of the Webster County community, but Amish culture in general. Her natural speech and writing patterns, she says, are uniquely “Amish,” acquired from her Amish maternal grandparents. The Amish of Seymour, includes Patchwork Dreams, A Harvest of Hearts, and Promised to Another. Her second series, The Amish of Webster County, is comprised of Healing Love, Surrendered Love, and Awakened Love. A stand-alone title, A White Christmas in Webster County, was released in September 2014. The Amish of Jamesport includes The Snow Globe,The Postcard and The Birdhouse. In spring 2016 she released The Amish Firefighter with the setting in Jamesport, MO, the same as for The Amish Wanderer.

The Newcomer by Suzanne Woods Fisher

This book is set in the 1700's where living on the Frontier is dangerous and so difficult.  This is the second book of An Amish Beginnings Series.  The book is about Anna and her journey in the new world.

I loved the story but was getting extremely nervous about the outcome.  I kept turning the page with high hopes it would turn out the way I wanted.

It was a great read and I highly anticipated the next book -The Return.

My ancestors immigrated to America in a much grander scale than Anna and the members of the Church of Ixheim.  My family had the dream of better jobs and the opportunity to prosper.  Anna had the same dream.

This book explored the theme of coming to terms with your faith and finding inner peace.  This relates as much today as it did in the 1770s.

Five stars!  You must pick it up and read this.

Two Suitors for Anna by Molly Jebber

I have been a fan of Amish Fiction for awhile but never heard of Molly Jebber until just recently.  Her book about Anna and the choice she must make is wonderful,  I had no problem getting caught up in the story.  It is easy to do what is comfortable but sometimes we have to step outside the box.  Anna had to do just that.

Anna expected life to go on as normal in Berlin, Ohio.  She didn't think that anything would change once she married Noah.  But Noah had a surprise for her....Anna knew that the decision she must make would change the rest of her life.

I loved this story as it unfolds.  Anna was never alone.  She had her faith to guide her.  Her Mother and sisters were there to support what ever decision she made.  Her friend, Grace, was always available to share her thoughts with.  Anna needed them all.

I always feel that I have gone on a vacation when I read a story about the Amish.  It takes me to a happy place and makes me envious of the loyalty and the love of family that exists in their community.  Anna has a close relationship with her sisters and her mother.  Could she leave them?

Will Anna find the happiness she longs for with Noah or with Daniel?  I knew who I would pick.

I received this book free to review.

Never Forget

Today is the release date of this delightful story written by one of my favorite authors.  I have recommended all of Jody Hedlund's books to friends and family members and I won't hesitate to recommend this one, too!

Due to the holidays, I didn't get started as fast as I wanted to.  I knew that once I cracked open the cover, I wouldn't put it down until I was finished.  I quickly read through this book as well.

The main characters are Abbie and Nathaniel.  Abbie made some very poor decisions that she would regret later.  Her decisions were always made with good intentions.  She loved her grandfather and tried to help him any way she could. She must come up with a plan to keep the lighthouse and stay on Rose Island.

Nathaniel was lost and didn't know it until he was washed ashore the island.  This is when he really knew where he belonged.

Abbie and Nathaniel renewed their faith and found God's love and the light that would transform their lives.  This light was brighter than the light that shines from the lighthouse.

You won't be disappointed reading this.  This is the last book I completed in 2016.  What a great way to end the year.

We all make mistakes.  Sometimes our mistakes seem unforgivable.  We are forgiven and this allows us to start anew.  The past is the past and today is a new day.  Great message to start this new year!

SOAR LIKE EAGLES BY TERRY WANGARD

What is there not to like about this book?  This book is so richly detailed and intriguing.  I loved reading about the obstacles the characters conquer while serving our country in World War 2.

Chet and Carol were very careful about allowing anyone to get too close.  Carol saw what happened to her friend who married way to quickly.  She felt it was best not to have any ties to hold her down.  She was not going to do anything rash and have regrets for the rest of her life.  Then she met Chet.

She was intrigued but was closely guarding her heart.  She thought if she was stationed in France she would be safe.

Chet and Carol each had a job to do but often would think of each other and pray that they were safe.

This was a wonderful romantic story but was very detailed.  I felt like I was in the cockpit with Chet.  It is amazing to think that the pilots continued to get in the plane over and over again.  They had a duty to serve and they served it well.

I loved the last chapter.  It was a pleasure to read.  Highly recommend.  This is a story that leaves you feeling patriotic and proud to be an American.  I will be looking for more books by Ms. Wangard to read in the future.

This book is a collection of three stories with a connection to baking and the love that goes into the recipes.
I am reviewing The Christmas Bakery on Huckleberry Hill by Jennifer Beckstrand.

I've read a few books by Ms. Beckstrand so I knew I was in for a treat.

This story is about Titus and his wonderful grandparents - Anna and Felty.  His grandmother wanted Titus to find a wife and to be happy as she was in her marriage.

Katie Rose is being sent to stay with Anna and Felty during the Christmas season.  Her parents are hoping that an old neighbor, Adam, will propose after he samples some of Katie's cooking.  Anna knows he is not a match for Katie but her grandson, Titus, is perfect for her.

Katie knows how important it is for Adam to propose.  If he doesn't she'll be an old maid.  But he is so critical and doesn't appreciate her baking.  Titus realizes Adam doesn't deserve Katie and he is on a mission to win her hand.

Titus and Katie are very caring people.  They are very respectful and always try to make others happy.  You can't help to cheer for Titus in his quest to win Katie's affection.  It doesn't hurt that he has a Christmas goat to help him.

Great story.  I enjoyed reading this.

Healing of the Heart by Loree Lough

New authors excite as I don't know what to expect.  Will I want to finish the book?  Will I be sad when I turn to the last page?  This book was the first book I ever read by this author.  I saw it was Book 3 and was prepared to be confused and bewildered for awhile.  But I was able to catch on pretty quick and could figure out what Ruby McCoy was all about.

Ruby felt responsible for her father's actions.  She was trying to pay back to all the people who were harmed by her father.  She travelled from city to city to accomplish this goal.  She was afraid to let anyone know who she was as she knew that she would be shunned and thrown out of town.  She kept her identity a secret.

She arrived in Fairplay to try to erase her guilt.  She sensed that Fairplay was different.  She felt like she belonged there.  It didn't hurt that she was attracted and interested in the town's sheriff, Rex Truett.

Rex took care of his aunt and two orphan children.  He wanted to protect them from any harm.  He wanted to adopt the children but he had two strikes against him.  He was single and he had a dangerous job.  He was the sheriff.  He became the sheriff of Fairplay after his father was killed by a villain. He felt guilty that his father was at the bank (the scene of the crime) because of him.  It was his fault that his father was there in the first place.

Ruby and Rex made life decisions on their feelings of guilt.  Neither were guilty of anything but took it upon themselves anyway.  This guilt dictated their decisions.

Rex and Ruby fell in love but also learned that no matter what they did the feeling of being responsible of something they had no control over could never go away.  They had to learn to allow themselves to feel God's love and understand what they can and can not control.

With this new understanding, they were to able to turn to each other and grab on to the happiness they both deserved.

Great book.  I received this book free to review.  I highly recommend the book as well as the series Secrets on Sterling Street.

The Blue Ribbon Brides Collection

Story collections are great to read.  They are quick, enjoyable and to the point.  I am always excited when a new collection comes out.  This collection is about young women who aim for the Blue Ribbon prize as a way to fulfil their dreams.

Altered Hearts by Gina Welborn is the story of Reba and her dreams to live in the city and open a millinery shop.  She visited the city when she was a child and she decided that there is where she wanted to go.  Reba loved designing hats.  Winning the Blue Ribbon gave Reba the courage to leave Parker, South Dakota for the big city.

Levi had a plan but didn't discuss it with Reba and he assumed she was agreeable.  He was going to marry Reba and live with his family at the dairy farm.

Reba felt she was a failure and that the success of her shop would reveal  God's will for her life.  She opened her shop but realized she didn't have the business sense to keep it going.

Levi realized that he never properly courted Reba.  Reba looked at him as a friend.  Well, he wasn't going to sit by and lose her.  He was going to Sioux Falls and persuade Reba to marry him.

Levi's dream was to study horticulture but he put his dream aside to assist his family's dairy farm in accounting and paperwork.   Reba's dream was for her shop to be successful as she loved designing hats.  The more successful her shop, the less time she had to design hats.

Both were praying to God asking for guidance.  How can they come together and agree on their future?

This book is about compromise, prayer and God's will for our future.

I received this book free to review.  The stories were delightful.

Five stars

The Devoted by Suzanne Woods Fisher

The Devoted by Suzanne Woods Fisher

I have had the privilege to read the three books of the The Bishop’s Family Series.  This is book three.  The characters in The Devoted have become like a family to me.  It is an honor to be a part of David Stoltzfus’ family.

Ruthie Stoltzfus is trying to decide what to do in her life and what direction to turn.  She is at the crossroads.  Her Aunt Ruth doesn’t want Ruthie to regret her decision.

Aunt Ruth is known as Dok as she left the Amish to become a doctor in the big city.  She realizes that she wants more and moves back to Stoney Ridge to give back to the community that she loves.  She has a journey of her own but will she be open to what the future has in store for her?

Patrick wants to be Amish.  He comes to Stoney Ridge to learn but he didn’t plan on meeting someone like Ruthie.

David Stoltzfus is the bishop to the church in Stoney Ridge.  He feels that something is wrong in his community and is trying to make it right even though the congregation disagrees.

Luke Schrock is causing trouble for Ruthie.  She isn’t the only one that is fed up with his antics.  Luke is out of control.  What will it take to get Luke the help that he needs?

The title of the book is The Devoted.  Everyone is devoted to their family, friends and the community in this book.  They remain true to the words of God even if at times it can be difficult to stay on that path.

I enjoyed this book as well as the series.  I hope that there will be another in this series as the story still has some story lines that it can explore.  What will happen with Patrick and Ruthie?  Birdy and David?  Dok and Matt?  Luke?

Newton & Polly by Jody Hedlund

Jody Hedlund hit it out of the park with this new book called Newton & Polly.  This book is about John Newton who wrote the beautiful song - AMAZING GRACE.

John just had a glimpse of Polly and fell in love with her immediately.  She was beautiful.  He later discovered that she was as beautiful in the inside as well.  Polly felt something towards John but John made it difficult for anything to develop between them.  To John's despair, Polly's father forbid him to see her.  He felt that all he needed was to obtain wealth and her father would allow him to court Polly.

John was his own worse enemy.  He was in turmoil.  He had difficulty with every one.  He hurt his father, his friends and his family. He didn't know what way to turn until that one night where he finally got down on his knees and prayed to the Almighty Father.  With that one simple act, John saw what God has been willing to offer him all along.  John found forgiveness, redemption and grace.
Polly never gave up that John could be the man that we born to be.

This was a very hard book to read at times as it hurt to see John in so much pain.  He was his own worst enemy.

Thank you, Ms. Hedlund, for putting this story down on paper for all of us to read and learn from.

I highly recommend this to all my friends and family.

A Lady Unrivaled by Roseanna M. White

A Lady Unrivaled by Roseanna M. White

Can a person really change?  Or are you destined to continue making the same mistakes over and over?  These are the questions Cayton asks himself.  He was unsure if he could risk a chance to love again after all the pain he created.  He believed that if he dared to open his heart, he would harm someone so very precious to him.  But he couldn’t get her off of his mind….and she slowly made him believe that love just might be possible.

Ella heard the rumors about Cayton.  But she was drawn to him and to his daughter, Addie.

A Lady Unrivaled is the third book of the series – Ladies of the Manor.  I didn’t read the first two books.  It did create a disadvantage as it took me awhile to figure who was who and what this book was about.  But after a few chapters I was okay.  I quickly connected to Ella and her zest for life.  She was brave and determined to protect all who were in possession or connected to the Fire Eye Diamonds.  Even if it might cause her death….

I enjoyed reading this book that was a love story and a mystery.  It was never dull.  There were bad guys, spies, twists and turns and enough excitement to the very last page.

I received this book free to review.  I rate it five stars.  Now I need to pick up the first two books to find out what started this drama.
